Nunavut Mining Symposium 2018

On April 10, 2018, John Donihee and Joanna Vince will be speaking at the 2018 Nunavut Mining Symposium in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

John and Joanna's presentation is titled: Wildlife Management Plans - What Must Mining Proponents Do to Satisfy Impact Review Boards?

Wildlife management plans are now a critical component of project proposals and an area of focus for local communities and impact review boards.  Project proponents in Nunavut and NWT must assess the impact of their projects, including mining activities and road construction, on wildlife.  Proponents are also expected to outline the best approach to wildlife management.  A trend towards more detailed and onerous wildlife management plans can be seen in a series of recent impact assessments.  These include the Back River Project,  the Jay Project, the Prairie Creek All Season Road and the Tlicho All Season Road.  This presentation will explore the evolution of wildlife management plans and what proponents can expect will be required by impact review boards.
